Put it on hold

Hello Reader,

As the winter break approached, I had every intention to keep publishing my newsletter twice a week.

But life, as it often does, had other plans.

A week before the holidays, a subtle tension began to weave its way through our home.

It was noticeable.

In my anxious thoughts.

In each shallow breath.

And in the confused quiet moments of reflection.

I could feel it altering the way I showed up each day.

For me, for my family and in my work.

In that space of awareness, I made a conscious choice to refresh my intentions:

  • I decided to put my content creation process on hold during the holidays.
  • I committed to being fully present with my family, seeking out those precious 'glimmers' (tiny moments of pure joy).
  • I embraced each trigger as a chance to practice patience. Accepting my parenting journey as a life living in slow motion. Finding every opportunity to deepen our family bonds

This break was not just about rest.

It was about slowing down.

It was about being present with intention.

It was about showing up as the best version of myself.

These conscious choices allowed me to avoid

  • The extra weight of stress
  • The trap of overcommitment
  • The daily discomfort from sleep deprivation

Now, as the regular rhythm of school life has started again, I find myself reflecting on these quiet mornings.

As I walked into my living room today, a little artwork on our easel caught my eye. It was a list penned by my daughters. At the top, the word “ruls” (rules) was written boldly. What followed was a heartwarming set of guidelines:

  • Be kind
  • Be careful
  • Help people
  • Be caring
  • Be kind to one another
  • Respect people

Seeing their innocent words and heartfelt intentions brought an immense smile to my face.

It was a clear sign.

The values we focus on expand and they are indeed soaking into these young, spongy minds.

It's a reminder that nurturing positivity, compassion and kindness will lead them to become independent, considerate, and helpful individuals.

Our efforts may not always show immediate results.

But they are building a solid foundation for a future filled with kindness, empathy and understanding.

As we step into the routine again, I encourage you to reflect on the little lessons, emotions and values you're passing on to those around you.

What 'rules' are you setting? Perhaps unconsciously, through your actions, words and intentions.

Let's share and celebrate these subtle changes that will make far-reaching changes in your future.

Wishing you a week filled with intentional living and joyful discoveries.

Khatija

It’s a typical Monday morning. And here I am settling into what I call my “green zone.” My peak productivity hours. Highest energy in the day. Where I aim to complete one important task. But today feels different. I’m tired, unfocused and perplexed. The remains of a vibrant but late night still lingering. This newsletter you are reading right now? Almost didn't happen. With a blank screen in front of me. And an equally empty mind. I struggle to find inspiration. Then it struck me. Why not...

It’s 3.15 pm on a Wednesday and I am in the school playground. The usual buzz of children filled the air. As I wait to pick up my kids. My 7-year-old walk towards me. Her small face clouded with sadness. As a mother, I feel an ache in my heart. I kneel to her level and ask her how she is doing. Giving her space yet staying present. Sensing the stress within her. I'm here to help her navigate through her emotions. Our walk home is quiet. Her silence, her lips pulled down, and her marching...

Last night I found myself reflecting on a recent memory that unfolded a few Saturdays ago. It was a simple experience. One that weaves into our ongoing journey of self-awareness and emotional well-being. My sister, visiting from London with her family brought along the excitement for a long-awaited cousins’ weekend. After a delightful dinner, she revealed sleek black velvet parcels from her handbag. And she presented them to my daughters. This was more than just a gift. It was a moment to be...
